Illinois Land Professional | Conservation and Wildlife Habitat Expert
Ross Fogle brings a unique combination of hands-on farm management and conservation expertise to the LandGuys team. Actively participating in his family’s row crop and livestock operation along the Mackinaw River in Woodford County, Illinois, Ross has a deep connection to the land. With over a decade of experience in conservation implementation and USDA Farm Bill programs, he has developed a reputation for maximizing farm profitability while integrating sustainable practices.
Raised with a strong agricultural foundation, Ross grew up showing cattle and was actively involved in FFA and 4-H before competing in collegiate livestock judging at Western Illinois University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Western Illinois University in 2011 and has built his career around helping landowners maximize both the productivity and long-term value of their properties. Passionate about wildlife habitat development and conservation, Ross specializes in blending proven agricultural practices with habitat improvement to create land that performs for both recreational and farming objectives. His work in conservation and agriculture has earned statewide and national recognition, including the McLean County Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leader in Agriculture Award, Pheasants Forever Rookie of the Year, and the Pheasants Forever Executive Excellence Award for Significant Achievement.
I have had the great opportunity of representing buyers in central and western Illinois. LandGuys of Illinois has an incredible network of reputable brokers that I trust and have referred clients to when their needs are best suited for expertise in areas all over Illinois.
Proximity to Bloomington-Normal is important. Many buyers want their investments to be near where they live and work to enjoy them the most. In a low inventory area, these properties have generated competitive buyers that understand these opportunities are limited. When LandGuys of Illinois markets a property, we capture and understand the value your property has for the local area.
I have helped clients with the process of permitting and organizing Illinois State approved highway accesses with IDOT, scheduling contractor project bids, reviewing government program contracts, and interviewed consultants for lake and habitat management.
The Conservation Reserve Program is a volunteer conservation program that is Federally administered by the USDA. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) administers the program payments and land enrollment. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides technical assistance and practice planning. CRP is often categorized in a "General Sign-up" or a "Continuous Sign-up". Each sign-up is very different from the types of practices, management, and soil rental rates that they offer. I have worked with these programs for more than a decade and can guide you through the process of understanding what your land is enrolled in and how this impacts land value.
The specific program you are enrolled in may or may not be eligible for re-enrollment. The payments change with county averages and soil rental rates. Your contract may be set at one payment rate for 10 years, but when it comes time for re-enrollment it will be a different price. Based on your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) you may or may not qualify to receive annual CRP rental payments. I understand how cash flow makes a difference in a land purchase, and we can review these to discuss how it impacts your decisions and land value.
Ross and his wife, Lisa, reside in McLean County with their three children, where they enjoy the balance of farming, conservation, and rural life. Ross and his family are very active in their church and school community. Whether you’re looking to buy, sell, or enhance your farmland, Ross’s blend of agricultural knowledge and conservation expertise makes him an invaluable resource for achieving your goals.
